Do you know that the Town of Ballston had living within it an infamous traitor? Do you know that the Town of Ballston has within it a cemetery where about 100 children who died here are buried? Do you know that there was a Town of Ballston resident who was close to becoming the President of the United States? Do you know that the Town of Ballston was once the home of an amusement park which people from all over the capital district visited? If you are unfamiliar with these stories of our past, pick up a copy of Town Historian Rick Reynolds' Historical Tour pamphlet which will lead you to these and many other places of interest in the Town. This booklet is free of charge and is available at the Ballston Town Hall, the Town of Ballston Community Library, FoCastle Farms in Burnt Hills, Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa, Ballston Spa Village Hall and at Carney's Restaurant in Ballston Lake. This is a tour that residents can easily take on their own by following the directions and map contained within the brochure. Are you interested in serving as an election inspector for the Town of Ballston? The Town of Ballston is in need of election inspectors for the 2008 elections. Election inspectors are the people that make Election Day really happen. We are asking our residents to take an active role in protecting one of our oldest freedoms, the right to vote. If you need to find out more about being an Election Inspector, please contact the Saratoga County Board of Elections at 885-2249. |
Saratoga County reimburses the Community Colleges for approximately 1/3 of the cost of educating students who are Saratoga County residents. To participate in this program, students must obtain a Certificate of Residence and submit this certificate to the community college. The Town Clerk's Office, as a service to its residents, can issue Certificate of Residence to our residents if they have lived in the Town of Ballston for at least a year and they are not attending high school. If the student has lived in the Town for less than a year or if the student is attending high school, the student must go to the Saratoga County Treasurer's office (884-4724) for the certificate. The Certificate of Residence is in effect for 1 year for the same Community College. If the student attends a different Community College, the student needs a new certificate. The Town of Ballston Farmers' Market is looking for more vendors. The Market is open from May 3 to the end of October, Wednesday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You must have proof of insurance and all items for sale must be grown or produced in NYS. The Community Room is available for Town based not-for-profit groups, Town based community groups and Town businesses. The Town of Ballston needs your help. Saratoga County Office of Emergency Services is required by Article 2B of the Executive Law to establish a registry for persons with special needs. The Registration Request Form for Special Needs Registry is available at the Town Clerk's Office for residents who have mobility impairment, major respiratory illness and/or receive service coordinating from an agency servicing individuals with developmental disabilities (Office for Aging, County Social Services or Public Health Nursing). A person's participation in this registry is voluntary and all information maintained will be strictly confidential and used only for emergency purposes. The Saratoga County area is involved in a project called "Operation Adopt a Soldier". This project provides collection places for the public to leave needed personal items and food donations for soldiers serving in Iraq and other overseas locations. Items being collected include: eye drops, lip balm and gloss, facial tissue and toilet paper, shaving cream, disinfectant soap, hand cream, baby wipes and wet naps, powered ice tea and drink mixes, packaged snack foods and hard candy, homemade brownies and cookies, AT&T international phone cards, magazines. Money donations will help cover shipping costs and checks may be made out to: CSEA Local 168, Operation Adopt-a-Soldier, Mount McGregor Correctional Facility, Mountain Road , Wilton, NY 12831.Donations sites include: The Town of Ballston Town Hall, The Town of Ballston Community Library, The Saratoga County Clerk's Office, Charlton Town Hall, Business Products and Medi-Call in Clifton Park, Curves for Women in Gansevoort, Hillcrest Fire Department in Halfmoon, the offices of Dr. Vincent Scicutella in Saratoga Springs and South Glens Falls, Wilton Town Hall, Mount McGregor Correctional Facility. |
Do you need a ride to your doctor or medical appointment? The Wellness Express provides transportation, free of charge to residents of the Town of Ballston, the Town of Milton and the Village of Ballston Spa. The Wellness Express is a program funded by the Town of Ballston, Town of Milton and the Village of Ballston Spa and is operated by Community Human Services. Transportation is offered on an individual basis for appointments within a 50-mile radius of point of origin. The program operates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays with hours varying depending on participant need; however, evening appointments cannot be accommodated. Requests for transportation should be made as far in advance as possible. The program operates on a first come, first served basis. For further information or to request transportation call Community Human Services, weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at 399-4624. |
